Fossil Fuel Divestment Debate

May 15, 2017 @ 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM

Is fossil fuel divestment a good idea? Should Cambridge University commit to divestment?

CUAI are hosting a divestment debate panel discussion in collaboration with Cambridge Zero Carbon Society! It will discuss the fossil fuel divestment movement, both in terms of its current progress and the challenges faced by the movement from a variety of viewpoints. We hope to raise awareness of the pressing need to combat devastating levels of climate change, while debating the effectiveness of pursuing a divestment policy. This is an extremely topical issue, which is particularly prevalent in student circles.

The speakers at the event include Dr Benny Peiser (Director of the Global Warming Policy Foundation), Ian Ralls (Cambridge Friends of the Earth), Dr Matthew Rendall (lecturer at the University of Nottingham), Richard Baxter (Greenpeace) and Dr James Smith (part of the Fossil Free UK movement).

The format of the event will be an open discussion about the themes outlined above. It will begin with a short introductory speech from participants, followed by an open debate, with questions and comments from the floor. With a range of exciting speakers coming from a unique angle on the debate on climate change, we hope to see you there!

In collaboration with the Cambridge Zero Carbon Society we are pleased to present our Divestment Debate.
